  • May 2017: this month not a lot has happened in terms of Mo's exercise because next month she is going to a very highly recommended stud farm when she will have AI and hopefully become a mummy!!

  • April 2017: Unfortunately earlier in the month Mo had to have the vet out due to lameness, thankfully now she is ok!

  • March 2017: Mo Mo hasnt been lunged or anything this month as I am hoping to put her into foal in a couple of months!

  • February 2017: Mo Mo is slowly building her stamina back up through lunging, pole work and ridden work. she is behaving impeccably considering the cold, windy weather

  • January 2017: Happy New Year! Mo is being brought back into work this month ready for the year ahead. This year is hopeffully going to be very exciting!

  • December 2016: This month has been quite quiet for myself and Mo due to a family bereavement.

  • November 2016: Mo has been doing light work this month with regular massage pad sessions and lots of carrot stretches to help maintain flexibility through her back whilst strengthening her muscles.

  • October 2016: Mo had the Chiropractor out again on the 11th of this month to check see how much her back has improved from doing her carrot stretches six times, twice a day and time off work! Mo's back had improved a lot and she was now aloud to be ridden but we thought the back problem was caused by Mo's saddle so we had her saddle checked, once it was checked and altered she could be ridden! on Monday 31st of this month I had a lesson with Robyn, this was the first time she had been ridden since her back problem so I was expecting her to be full of energy but she wasn't and she was so well behaved!!
  •
  • September 2016: On the 19th of this month, Mo had the Chiropractor out to check her back. Mo had quite a lot of sore areas so she is having 3 days of doing absolutely nothing other than enjoying the days off in the field, then she has to do her carrot stretches 6 times at least once a day and have 10 days off work. On Friday the 30th Mo was lunged because all of the days off had made her a bit excited!

  • August 2016: Mo has improved a lot on the exercise of weaving in and out of cones using only my legs, of course I am still holding the reins but I'm trying not to have a contact so that mo is only listening to my leg aids. This month I am going to try riding with a bar rein.

  • July 2016: This month I have been working on trying to steer Mo Mo with my legs, weaving in and out of cones! Mo has mastered this in walk so we are now working on doing it in trot. Once Mo is able to do it in trot then we will be moving on to doing it in canter.

  • June 2016: i went to my brothers at the begining of this month so Mo had a well earned 5 days rest! When I came back we were working on downwards transitions to get Mo more responsive to my seat.

  • May 2016: This month Mo has been so understanding and is responding to my weak left leg extremely well!
  •
  • April 2016: This month I have been working on keeping the bend in my right elbow to allow a cosistant contact down the rein to compensate for my left arm not working, we have been working really hard on this to help m get one step closer to returning to Para competition.

  • March 2016: Mo is really starting to accept my left arm and we've had some amazing lessons this month!

  • February 2016: This month my trainer Robyn has been getting my left leg to work extra hard to compensate for the fact that my left arm doesn't work as well as it used to and therefore can't give Mo the signals that it should.

  • January 2016: This month I have actually been away in Vietnam for my brother's wedding. We are now training as much as my arm will allow me to as we are determined to return to Para at some point this year.

  • December 2015: The majority of this month the weather has been awful, when i say awful I mean windy and as we know Mo is petrified of the wind! However when we rode yesterday, the 14th and Mo felt the best she has since riding with my new disability! She was very forward thinking with her trot work, she was in a nice outline, she didn't spook once and most importantly she was listening to me. I have to say she was much better on the right rein but since I have been practically riding with one arm, my right rein has always been the better one.

  • November 2015: This month me and Mo Mo have been working on test riding with Robyn which has been going really well, we plan on doing some able bodied British dressage over the winter months to get me back used to competition riding.Mo is still being schooled by Sammy which is really helpful as it keeps Mo doing the harder movements with a consistent contact.

  • October 2015: This month we are working on our test riding to prepare us for our next competition.
  • September 2015: Mo is becoming more settled whilst being worked in the wind and I,m starting to feel a little more confident as Mo is getting to grips with my new disability.
  • August 2015: Me and my trainers are trying to work Mo more in the wind to try give her a little more comfidence.
  • July 2015: We have been continuing to practice our test for Hartpury later on this month. When we first got to Hartpury Mo settled really well, when it was our test time it was very windy and during the test began to rain causing driving rain. This unsettled her causing her to spook, gallop off down the arena and for safety reasons we chose to retire.
  • June 2015: This month we have been working on our tests for Hartpury in July, mainly our freestyle to music test as we had to create a comepletely new floor plan.
  • May 2015: We have been practising the RDA Grade III Championship test which is a walk, trot, canter test with some medium trot in it. I was ridiculously nervous about the competition even though it was only a local one i think i just wanted to impress everyone, start back where I left off and be as good as i used to be, however I knew this wasn't going to happen. Anyway i went to the competition expecting nothing with my target percentage at 64%, the warm up went really well, Mo was so well behaved and didn't put a hoof wrong! It was my time to ride my test infront of the judges, i really wasn't even expecting to get my target score but i had to keep positive. I was so scared that my arm was going to pick up momentum causing me to loose control, even though i have been working really hard on controlling this every single emotion and possibility was going through my mind. I did the test and i felt it went really bad even though i managed to keep my arm under some sort of control, i just wasn't really too sure. I went to look at my score only to find out I had won the class with 72% and qualified for the nationals at Hartpury in July, not only that but it was a Para judge who was judging! I was so happy and we are now practising for the RDA Nationals at Hartpury in July.

  • April 2015: This month we have been working on basic transitions with Mo in order to allow her to get more used to my new disability, Mo is being really understanding and coping really well! We have entered the local RDA Regional Qualifier because this will get me used to the competition routine again, get Mo out again as she hasn't been to a competition since 2013 and I will be able to see what the judges comments are to help me improve my riding with one arm.

  • March 2015: Mo is now off Infracam as she seems to be a lot better, she has put all her weight and muscle back on and her movements are a lot better! The main thing I have noticed is that when she walks she doesn't dish with her front leg anymore which she was doing before. I have started to ride Mo again as I believe she has got back into a work routine again. Her movements are an awful lot better which I can actually feel whilst riding, this is also really obvious when I watch Sammy school her once a week. Robyn has been coming once a week to give me a lesson, she has also noticed a massive improvement in Mo's movement and weight. Robyn also made the comment about Mo's muscle which has gained rapidly.

  • February 2015: Mo is now on infracam every other day, we are going to start working her as I would normally and see how she goes. She has been going amazingly though and you can really see a difference in her movements already.

  • January 2015: Mo is still on Infracam and just doing light work with Sammy.

i haven't been able to ride Mo as she will be hyper after having so long off work and with having only one fully functioning arm I won't be able to control her aswel as what I would have been able to do before the car crash.

  • December 2014: Mo was taken out of work imidiately after squad and throughout December I had the Physio and the Chiropractor out to see Mo's back. However the opinion of them both was that Mo needed to be seen by a vet. I got intouch with our Home vet who is an ex Newmarket vet, he did a full blood count and the results of the blood test came back normal, which is great! The next step was to take X-rays of the affected area, this was done. A short time later the X-ray results came back and she was diagnosed with having Non Specific Myositis Therefore she was put on a course of Infracam where she had to have a dose every day.

  • November 2014: Whilst we were at Squad we found out that Mo's back is a little bit sore, because of this she is having a month of Pessoa work and light ridden work. Mo is going very well in both aspects of her training.

  • October 2014: This month me and Mo Mo have been working extra hard to perfect our Grade III Team test which we will have to ride at Squad training on Thursday the 16th and Friday the17th of this month. We were getting a lot better at this test although the only "issue" was the walk-canter movement, this is because when Mo goes from walk to canter my immobile arm picks up momentum and therefore starts bouncing up and down, resulting in Mo getting very excited. I asked Beccy Phillips if I could ride the Individual Championship test which is actually the harder test, although I find it easier for my affected arm because it is a trot-canter transition which redues the risk of loss of control. I rode this test at Squad and although it was not amazing and defininitely not up to my standards, it was actually a lot better than what I thought it would be and the score I received was a lot better than I ever imagined considering the level of disability the Brachial Plexus injury has caused me.

  • September 2014: I have been riding Mo but only for short periods of time concentrating on building my core strength and fitness back up. Mo has been behaving impeccably and looking after me so much.
  • August 2014: I recieved a letter confirming the date of my follow up appointment with Mr Macquillan, the appoinment was the 19th of August. He said that i have a really long way to go yet but i am doing really well for such a short space of time after the operation. On the plus side i can ride :D I'm so happy :D
  • July 2014: Mo is behaving impeccably For Sammy and is going like a superstar. I'm now am awaiting an appointment with Mr Macquillan to check that everything is going ok, although my recovery is going to be slow it seems to have progressed really well!
  • June 2014: Mo is settling back in well, she is so pleased to be reunited with her friends and she's enjoying relaxing in her field for a few days. I am having to immobilise my arm and shoulder for four weeks to allow the nerves to heal.
  • May 2014: Mo is settling back in well, she is so pleased to be reunited with her friends and she's enjoying relaxing in her field for a few days. I am having to immobilise my arm and shoulder for four weeks to allow the nerves to heal.
  • April 2014: Mo has come home as Robyn has moved yard and the new one is too far away for me to travel to watch mo be schooled. Robyn is continuing to school Mo ready for me to get back on her.
  • i have had some disappointing news, after being told my nerves were stretched which will recover without the need for surgery, i went to my urgent appointment at the Royal National Orthapeadic Hospital to see Mr Macquillan, an expert in Peripheral nerve injuries who told me i needed an urgent operation because atleast one of my nerves were detached. Within two weeks of seeing Mr Macquillan i was in theatre being operated on
  • March 2014: Mo has been working hard with Robyn as it has been extremely hard for her to get used to Robyn's way of riding as it is very different to mine. Later in the month Robyn took Mo to squad as i still can't ride! Mo was working amazing outside in the warm-up but when she went inside to do a test infront of David Hamer and Angela Weiss, she would not do anything for Robyn. In the end David was working with Robyn to get Mo to perform, although she wouldn't listen.
  • February 2014: Mo is continuing to work hard and learn new things whilst staying at Robyn whetherall's yard until i am better.
  • January 2014: Mo been training with Robyn Wetherall preparing for squad at the end of the month
  • December 2013: Mo and I went to squad and found it very useful as we were set exercises to strengthen Mo's back to make her use her hind quarters correctly
  • Novemeber 2013: Mo and I trained at home preparing for squad in early December.
  • October 2013: Mo is currently working to a very high standard, she is progressing very rapidly in the canter to walk transitions.

Preperations for the competition at Vale View on the 31st are well underway.
